You're tuned into the Grant
Business Show with Rodney Walker.
Hello, and salute to you, my friend.
Welcome to The Grant Business Show.
I'm your host, Rodney Walker, and I'm honored
to have you with me for another episode
where we're going to have a good time.
And on today's episode, I'm going to be sharing
with you some information that I believe is going
to help you to have a better grasp an
understanding of exactly who this show is for. Yes.
And who should be listening to the show.
I'm going to be sharing with you at
least three groups that I believe should be
absolutely, positively listening to this show.
And I'm also going to be sharing with you some
of my journey when I first started in this whole
grant thing that I believe will be helpful for you.
And I'm going to also share with you a resource
that will allow you to do a little deeper dive
to kind of understand what your journey might look like.
No one journey is the same, but I believe there
are lessons that we can learn from other people's story.
And so let me share with you that on this episode of
Get, I was about to say the wrong show of Get.
I'm so used to going to these other shows.
We know we got other shows. Right.
Just in case you don't know, we
have to Get Funded with Rodney show.
And if you haven't checked it out,
you may want to check that out.
But that's a different show.
And we have another show for grant writing.
That's not what this show is.
This show is strictly for grant business.
So if you're interested in the grant writing segment of
what we do, go over to grantwritingtoday.com and
you can find out more information about that.
But let me get back to the matter at hand.
Remember, I tell you, when I first started out, I was
going on this journey of trying to do this whole grant
business thing, and I didn't tell you what happened.
I want to tell you what happened.
I told you in one of the other episodes that
I did it because I had a knack for it.
And one of my professors encouraged me in that area.
But I also had necessity I never forget.
I was working for an organization, and I was at
a place where I needed to grow some more.
So I just started taking some grant writing classes.
And I was like, hey, maybe I
can write some grants for this organization.
And long story short, that organization wasn't
quite receptive to that thought and ideal.
And so I stepped and moved in a different direction, got
a different job, or so I thought I was going to
step in a different direction and get a job.
But when I made that pivot, I was still
in grad school, and I didn't have a job.
And I needed a job because I want to eat, right?
And so it took me a while.
Even though I had a master's degree, I
was having a hard time getting a job.
And so I started going around, and
I was going on these interviews.
And the people who were interviewing me, I was
more qualified than they were to do their job.
And I kept knocking on doors.
And I was getting rejection
after rejection after rejection.
And after a period of time of getting rejected,
guys, I got sick and tired of getting rejected.
And so you know what I decided to do?
I said, you know what?
I am about to hire myself.
And that's exactly what I did.
And I know my friends must
have thought that I was crazy. Here you are, Rodney.
You've been trying to get a job
for months, and you haven't been successful.
Now you're going to do your own business.
Good luck with that fellow.
That's what they were saying.
And it was quite humiliating.
But I never forget the day I put my suit on,
got some business cards made, went to my friends and announced
what I was doing and asked them for referrals.
And they gave me some referrals.
Some of my friends gave me some referrals.
And that did not lead to business right away.
It was a downward spiral for a while.
So for those of you who are thinking about
this whole grant business thing, it doesn't start out
where you just go and start the business one
day and the next day you're successful. No.
Sometimes you got to go through a period
of going down in order to go up.
And I'm going to encourage you
to know that that's natural.
And what I want to let you know is that you
got to hang in there and you got to get tough.
You've got to get tough.
If you're thinking about being an entrepreneur
and you're not willing to get tough,
you're in the wrong business.
This is a business of those who
learn how to survive through tough times
and grow persistence and determination.
Now, I don't have time to go into more of that
story right now, but I'm going to tell you this.
If you want to hear my full story about
that journey, just go to YouTube and look for
something called The Road to Getting Funded.
And I share about an hour, and I take it
to some of the places where I first started out.
And I'll tell you in more detail
than I have time for right now.
That story over at YouTube.
So go check it out if you're interested.
Now let me get back to those three groups
of people that this show is especially designed for.
The first group is for those of you
who want to start a grant business. Yes, I hear you.
I know that you're out there.
You want to start a grant business, and
you're not quite sure what to do well,
this show is especially designed for you.
I'm going to be sharing first episodes with
you and information to help you to start
growing your business in the right way.
Another group that this is for.
It's for those of you who already have
an existing business, and it's not maybe quite
performing the way you want it to do.
And you want to grow that business.
So it's for people who want
to grow an existing business.
If you come and hang out with me, I'm going
to give you some information that's going to help that
business to grow, and we're going to help to turn
it around and get it on the right track.
Another group that this is for, it's for
those of you who are wondering whether or
not to start a grant business or not. Okay.
I'm going to help you to get clarity on if
this is something you should actually be doing or not.
Yes.
I'm going to be holding up a mirror, in
essence, to show you what it's really like.
In fact, I'm going to be lifting up the hood so you
can look in and see "Oh, I don't know it was that." Okay?
And you got to look at that to
see if that's what you really want.
And that can save you a lot of time,
a lot of energy, so that you can make
the right decision and move in the right direction.
So I'm hoping that it will add
value to you in that way.
This show is about business, and I'm going
to be talking a lot about business.
So that's what this show is for.
And if you haven't listened to some of the
episodes on how to take advantage of this show,
and if it makes sense, subscribe let's hang out.
Let's grow this together.
I don't want you to make a
mistake that I made early on.
And let me tell you what that mistake was.
That early mistake was doing business
by myself on an island.
I felt like Gilligan.
You remember that show, Gilligan's Island?
I felt like Gilligan without the Skipper,
without the professor, without Mary Ann, without everybody.
It was just me.
And I don't want you making that same mistake,
my friend, and going at it by yourself.
You need support.
We all need support.
No man or woman is an island unto themselves.
So I want you to come and hang out.
Subscribe if it makes sense for you and what
we'll do each week, we will grow together.
Some of you want to do deeper
dives right now, you're like, Rodney? Okay.
When can we get started?
I want to get started right now.
Well, just know that over at Grant Central
USA, we have to Get Funded Inner Circle.
And one of the memberships that we
have is called the Platinum Plus.
Now, that Platinum Plus is especially for
those of you who are looking to
grow an existing business inside of it.
I have a lot of resources from people who
have done extremely well with their grant business.
I want to point you over to check that out.
That may be a resource that you want to take
advantage of because it has information in there that other
grant professionals have come in and they listen to it
and they begin to profit from the information.
We've kept the membership reasonable so that you
can get the information and then convert that
information into money for you and your business.
So this show is for you if you're thinking
about doing business, thinking about growing a business I'm
here to be your biggest cheerleader, to cheer you
on and to encourage you toward success.
Remember, we got to get the confidence right.
We've got to get the mindset right.
I'm going to be sharing with you information about
getting the mindset right because if you don't get
that right you'll be doing all this other stuff
and that will trip you up.
Yes, head tripping.
I don't want you doing that, my friend.
That's why I want you to be brave.
I want you to be bold, I want you to
be brilliant and yes, I want you to take charge.
Come back and hang out with me.
Remember to subscribe and if you found this
helpful, maybe share it with a friend.
There's somebody else you may know that's a
grant professional that needs to hear this.
Share this with them and I will see you next time.
Until then, all the best and remember, be
brave, be bold, be brilliant and take charge.
