Get Funded with Rodney
I was dreaming when I wrote this.
Forgive me if I go too fast.
This is crazy
I'm not suppose to be starting my show off like this
What's up!
What's up, Grant nation
Hey, this is Rodney Walker.
Welcome to the Get Funded with Rodney show.
I feel like Prince up in here, man.
It feels great, too.
I'm like a six-foot-two Prince.
Listen, that's before heels way
jumping my boots on, man.
Let me take a dive.
I just want to go swimming.
Somebody helped me out, man.
I feel like getting that water in that scene.
You know that scene I'm talking about.
Welcome to the show today, guys.
This is a Grant show, right?
I'm doing laps
I'm doing laps on you all
I know... I know
Let's calm down
Let me come down and get my head back on, right?
Okay, so this is a show on Grants. And today.
I got a good show for you.
I'm going to share with you some information about
how to use grant writing to get an internship
so that you can break into the industry.
I know some of you are on
the outside looking in and guess what?
I'm going to help open the door so you can get
on the inside and show you how to do it.
I'm going back to the 80's now.
I'm feeling right now like I
got a hairline or something. Okay?
I want to let you in.
And so today I'm going to share with you how to get in.
And one possible way to get in is with internships.
And I'm going to be
bringing more information about that.
I'm also going to be giving you that inspirational quote,
as well as I'm going to be sharing with you
one thing that you don't know about me.
I've already kind of given you
a clue about it right now.
In fact, I'll tell you about it right now.
One thing that you don't know about me that you
probably should know about me is I'm a Prince fan. Yes.
I like Prince
He was one of my favorite musical geniuses.
Yes, he was a genius not only in his music,
but I also felt like he was a genius.
And one of the things I really respected
about him is I have a great respect
for the love of productivity that Prince had.
And he was just so productive.
He produced so much music back in the day.
You remember when you turn your radio on and you
would hear that little static noise, you would play the
album just so you kind of hear that little music.
Some of you are old enough
to remember what I'm talking about.
I know you young folks don't know anything about that.
You've always had clear music with
those CDs and those MP3s
You grew up being a digital baby.
I grew up before that time. All right?
So with that being said, my friend, I
know give them something they can relate to.
Give these young people some stuff.
All right, here we go.
Let's give them some something with
a little bump into it, okay?
Because I'm going to be talking to them,
but I'm going to give them that inspirational
quote that I always give them.
And on today, our inspiration quote is coming
to you from none other than iGrantwriters.com.
If you're looking to hire a Grant writer or if
you're looking to get a job as a Grant
writer or even get discovered as a Grant writer,
you want to go over to iGrantwriters.com. Yes.
And when you do so, my friend is
going to help you to get discovered.
Now, with that being said, don't forget over that.
Also, we have a job board where you can
see what job opportunities exist for Grant writers. Okay.
Now let me get over to this quote for today.
Today's quote is coming to you from Thomas Edison.
And the quote is this. He says, I've not failed.
I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
Man, what an awesome quote.
What would happen if you and I took that same
perspective, that once we fail, it's not really failure.
It's a lesson learned.
And one of the lessons that we learned
is that, hey, this doesn't work, which means
that we're one step closer to success.
Did you get that?
You are one step closer to success.
And that's what this quote reminds me
of as I think about it.
Now, let me share with you how you can
break into the business of Grant writing using an internship.
First, it is, number one, a great way
to get your foot in the door.
You've been trying to get your foot in the door.
This is an excellent way to do so.
Secondly, you can actually use it to
get some real life experience as an
intern, even if you're not getting paid.
In fact, it may be worth it for you to
just go and say, "Hey, don't worry about pay me.
I'm trying to get the experience."
And thirdly, many nonprofits will
love to have an intern. Yes.
I mean, love.
Now what you want to do is make you sure that
you set it up for between three to six months.
Ideally, a good internship, three to
six months can do you well.
And number four, ensure that you have someone
within that organization that you can learn from.
Now, sometimes you may be able to get an internship
with a nonprofit and don't have anybody to learn from.
That's what I'm going to encourage you. Okay, great.
Let me show you how to do the grant writing part.
Maybe become a member of GFIC or take one
of our trainings, learn on that end while applying
what you've learned in a real life experience.
That's another way to go about doing it, my friend.
I know there's so many different ways, but using
internship can be a great way to springboard.
And I want you to check out someone who
I had a great deal of respect for.
She didn't know what she was doing when she first
came to me about grant writing name was Kathleen Timobo.
But Kathleen came to one of our trainings.
She got the information and went
back and turned it to $400,000.
They got a grant that paid them that amount.
And this happened in a short time span.
I'm talking about it within six months, she was
emailing me back this information after I trained her,
my friend, you can do it, too. Go check her out.
You can see her and many others that we've been
able to help over at wowtheydidit.com yes, that's W-O-W.
theydidit.com go check it out, my friend, because
if you will start saying to yourself, hey,
I don't want to stay on the outside.
I'm going to break in.
Just do it
Don't wait for anybody to give
you permission to break in.
What I'm saying is that you can get in this field.
There's room in this field.
Come grow in this field, come
become a powerhouse in this field.
And it all starts like everybody else.
Start that's at the beginning.
Don't be Don't Mike on me.
Don't be Don't Mike on me today.
What I'm saying is take the first
step and don't mike around.
And if you take that first step, my
friend, you will be one step closer to
realizing your dream of becoming a grant professional.
Now with that being said, here's what I want you to do.
I want you to go
over right now into grantcentralusa.com.
Look inside of the store.
We've got resources galore.
One of those resources is how
to break into grant writing fast. Yes.
There is a simple letter in there
that I've already written for you.
It's pretty much already written.
You just got to change the name
and put the information on there.
And when you do so it's going to help you to
land a job with a lot of other helpful tips.
Check that out.
And if you're a member of GFIC, guess what?
It's included in the package.
What are you waiting for?
If you don't know anything about GFIC,
go right now over to GFIC.
That's going to be getfundedinnercircle.com.
We've got a lot of information there to help you
to grow, to become a success in this field.
To break in this field.
I want to see you break in.
I don't want to see you in the house.
I come on over and let's
make some magic happen, my friend.
So with that said, here's going to do next week.
Not next week. Next show.
Yes, next show.
That means tomorrow.
Next time I see you. Whatever.
You know what I'm talking about.
What I'm saying is this.
We're going to be talking about how to
found foundations that give grants to your nonprofits.
It's time for you to
find where the opportunities exist.
And not only am I going to share with
you how to find the opportunities and where they're
at for nonprofits, but I'm going to share with
you some smarter ways to go about doing it.
Some people are doing things backwards.
I don't want you being one of my friends.
So with that being said. Be brave. Be bold.
Be brilliant.
Take charge.

I was dreaming when I...
